The local PTA collaborated with Dixon Middle School to put on a concert-style after school bash on Friday, October 9. The concert featured Mimi Knowles, a multi-talented rapper and R&B artist, and Dixon’s very own student Aaliyah Rose. Aaliyah is an 8th grader at Dixon and performs covers of popular songs on YouTube, where she has gained over 70 thousand followers.
The concert started at 7:30 and went until 9:30pm, and the PTA arranged for food and drink to be available at a reduced cost. The concert took place on Dixon’s soccer field where a stage and sound system had been arranged. Sumo-wrestling was available a few yards away on an inflatable course, and several giveaways and raffle drawings went on throughout the evening. Lucas Peay was one of the lucky winners of two longboards that were given away, and Shaeli Wilkerson won tickets to an upcoming BYU game.
The event was free to Dixon students and faculty. Anne Deucher, the PTA president, was largely responsible for all of the arrangements and details, and we should all thank her for the events’ huge success!
At one point Aaliyah called Principal Sites up on stage to have the crowd sing ‘Happy Birthday’ to him, since his birthday was the next day.
You can find Aaliyah on YouTube here.
