Guitar Parent Letter

Dear Guitar Parents,

I am excited to have your student in guitar class this year!  I just wanted to let you know that students will NOT need to bring guitars on the first day of school.  They will need to bring them by Tuesday, August 20.

Students will need an acoustic guitar. They can use either a steel string or nylon string guitar.  Some recommended brands are: Yamaha, Ibanez, Fender, Luna, and Taylor.  I strongly recommend that you get a guitar from a reputable music store. If you choose to get a guitar online, please email me before purchasing.  There are many junk instruments being marketed online and I can help you avoid making a regrettable purchase. Students will need to have a case for their guitar.  There will be a place provided for guitar storage during the day. Students will need to take their guitars home after school each day to practice.

We do have a limited number of guitars available to rent from the school for those students who are unable to provide their own guitar.  The guitar rental cost is $40 for the semester.  Students will need to complete a school instrument rental form, have it signed by a parent, and have it signed by the office after paying the rental fee.

The book we will be using this year is called H.O.T. First Year Guitar (5th edition). Students are not required to purchase the book. We have plenty for them to check out for the semester. However, many students prefer to purchase the book so they can write in it and take notes.  If you choose to purchase the book, the cost is $16.
