Provo City School District

Dixon Middle School

As a district, we recognize that yesterday’s announcement to dismiss school for the next two weeks has probably caused you to have many questions.  While this email contains a lot of details, it will hopefully answer many of your questions and provide direction for next week.  The district will continue to provide direction as needed throughout this coming week.  This information will be emailed to all parents and posted on the district website, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts.  Please read the entire email for important information for next week.

Online Learning

District teachers and staff are working to provide meaningful learning experiences for all students. If your family has a computer device(s) and internet your child can use, you are set. If not, watch for notices on how to get digital devices and, if needed, free options for getting internet. Regular online instruction begins on Wed., March 18. Here are some other notes:

Teachers are preparing for online instruction on Monday and Tuesday. On these days, we have some other activities, by grade level, that can provide fun, relevant learning for your children! Link here: https://tinyurl.com/rgzetj3 Students will manage their work from a digital learning platform; in elementary, Google Classroom, and in secondary, Canvas. Many students are already accustomed to using these platforms and are already doing schoolwork via these digital Learning Management Systems. To prepare, ask your child if they use one of these tools and have them show you how they log in. If your child is not yet familiar with these tools, you and they will receive instructions from their teacher.

Student Device (Chromebook) Checkout

Based on Utah Governor Gary Herbert’s announcement of soft school closures, Provo City School District is providing a Chromebook for each student who will need a computer for coursework at home.

To schedule a time to pick up a Chromebook please contact our call center (801-373-2188) Monday, March 16, between the hours of 12:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.

Because of the large volume of calls, we are requesting that parents/guardians use the following call schedule based on the first letter of the last name of their student:

  • A-F 12:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m.
  • G-M 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.
  • N-S 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.
  • T-Z 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.

Parents/Guardians will be asked the following questions when they call:

  • Student Name(s)
  • Student ID Number(s) or Lunch Number(s)
  • Do you have access to the internet at home or where your student will be completing coursework?
  • Do you currently have a computer or device at home?
  • What is your neighborhood elementary school?

Chromebooks will be distributed on Tuesday, March 17 between the hours of 12:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. Parents/Guardians will be able to pick up Chromebooks at their neighborhood Elementary School. Chromebooks must be picked up by a person who is 18 years or older.

There are enough Chromebooks for any student that does not have access to a device at home. The situation is changing and developing at a rapid pace, and we will do our best to keep parents informed.
