Several events are happening at Dixon on Thursday, March 24, involving all of our current students and incoming 6th graders.
Current 7th graders have been asked to schedule a job shadow experience to take place that day, or sometime that week. If they complete this form and turn it in to their PAWS teacher by Friday, March 18, they are excused from school. If they do not complete this form, they will be required to attend school for a half-day.
Current 8th grade students will attend school, but will have an early out and be released at 12:50. While at school they will participate in “Reality Town”, an interactive event orchestrated by our guidance counselors that will give them insight to how adult life functions. They will be given a packet detailing their ‘job’ and monthly salary (determined by their current GPA), and will have to decide on how to budget that money to afford necessities and luxuries for them and their ‘family’. This process offers great insight to all of the costs of adult life and how they add up.
Once current students leave, we will be opening our doors to all of our incoming 7th graders, bussed over from the elementary schools. They will meet their PAWS (homeroom) teacher, get a tour of the school, and see several presentations of the opportunities available here at Dixon. They will return to their elementary school before the end of the day.
Finally, from 6pm to 7:30pm we will be hosting a Parent Open house, where incoming students and their parents can meet their next year teachers, explore the building, and see our classrooms! Any questions or concerns will be hopefully answered during this time.
