Dixon Middle School

Our staff here at Dixon managed to relax and enjoy their winter breaks over the last two weeks.

Mrs. Golding and her family went to the beach in Clearwater, Florida.

Mrs. Navas went to visit her parents who flip houses in Arizona and helped them with a remodel.

Ms. Cellar and Mr. Randle used a telescope to see the conjunction between Saturn and Jupiter on December 21.  Through the telescope we could see the rings of Saturn and 4 of Jupiter’s moons! After the event, Ms. Cellar created a pysanka to commemorate it.  Pysanka are eggs decorated in the Ukrainian tradition using wax and intense dyes. You have to drain the insides of the egg, then draw your details in melted wax, which is very tedious to do!  After dying the egg your first color, you use more wax to preserve areas you want that color to be in, and then dye the egg again.  Finally, you melt the wax off of the egg and get to see the entire completed design.

Ms. Alisa made nativities with her kids the below is made out of tapa cloth, made from tree bark.

Mrs. Moody went to St. George and the Museum of Curiosity with her grandkids.

Mrs. Cunico went to the Grand Canyon!

We hope that you were able to enjoy your winter break as much if not more than some of our staff members. We are so happy to have you all back. Remember to keep working hard, and the last day of the semester is next Friday January 15th.
